Coral Sea Foundation
Facilitating the training and networking of Indigenous women from around the Coral Sea arc.
Inspired by the success of the Sea Women of Melanesia program, Sea Women of the Great Barrier Reef (SWoGBR) is an initiative run by the Coral Sea Foundation empowering North Queensland Indigenous women in marine conservation. SWoGBR, inspired by an all-female leadership model, aims to become an independent organization, uniting communities to safeguard marine environments while continuing training efforts.
The Coral Sea Foundation, combining science, gender equity, and sustainability, collaborates with the Wulgurukaba traditional owners from Yunbenun (Magnetic Island) to enhance marine science skills and establish marine reserves in their sea-country.
The Coral Sea Foundation will pitch to expand on their successful 2023 initiative, offering Wulgurukaba, Bindal, and Manbarra Indigenous women from Townsville/Palm Island the chance to deepen their sea country knowledge and monitoring skills.
Presented by:

Andy started the Sea Women of Melanesia training program in 2019 and helped incorporate the Sea Women of Melanesia as an independent not-for-profit organisation in Papua New Guinea, the first marine conservation organisation of its kind in the region with all Indigenous female Directors and members.
