PITCHING FOR SUPPORT
The Malpa Project
A culturally derived training program teaching young children from disadvantaged backgrounds to become Young Doctors.
Malpa’s Young Doctors for Life program engages Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children in culturally derived, community co-designed projects that train them as local health ambassadors who learn hands-on skills from Elders, doctors, paramedics and dieticians. They learn practical skills in health leadership, nutrition, health literacy, environmental health, hygiene and social and emotional well-being. Sessions are delivered in schools, hospitals, Aboriginal Medical Services, cultural centres and medical teaching facilities. Once empowered, the Young Doctors become leaders who engage with their families and communities to spread health knowledge and transform the health destiny of everyone concerned.
The Malpa Project are pitching to expand their "Bubup Doctors" program in Victoria, enabling them to empower 135 more children.
