PITCHING FOR SUPPORT
Fearless Women
Empowering young women through gendered education, mentorship, and counselling programs.
Fearless Women provides an inclusive, safe space for young women to enhance their self-belief, inner strength and resilience. Their early intervention programs focus on those with complex, prolonged needs who haven't reached a crisis point. Recognising the impact of intersectional disadvantage on mental health, their programs are free of charge.
Addressing the higher rates of psychological distress among young women in the ACT, Fearless Women offers wellbeing and empowerment programs in schools, a two-year Mentor Program, and a new Counselling Program for individuals and small groups.
Fearless Women will pitch for funding to support their Mentor Program, including community promotion and contributing to the wages for staff managing and delivering the program components.
Presented by:

She received the ACT 2024 Senior Woman of the Year Award.
Tender Funerals, Canberra
Providing affordable, meaningful funerals to communities in the greater Canberra region.
Death is equitable and inclusive, but funerals often aren't, leading to disempowerment and funeral poverty. Founded in the Illawarra in 2016, Tender Funerals is a network of not-for-profit funeral providers with the vision that every Australian has access to meaningful, affordable funerals. They also run community events to foster open discussions about death, dying and funerals. Tender Funerals Canberra Region opened in August 2024 and supports residents in Yass, Goulburn, Bungendore, Braidwood, Queanbeyan, Cooma, Canberra, and the surrounding areas.
They will pitch for funding to kickstart their Pay It Forward Benevolent Fund, which ensures that families in financial need can also access meaningful funerals without fear of debt or increased grief.
Presented by:
Catherine Prosser
General Manager, Tender Funerals, Canberra
Catherine wants to improve our community connections and capacity to deal with dying, death and funerals. She brings many years of experience in the community arts, educator, start-up and philanthropy sector. Catherine also volunteers for organisations that support our youth, our elders and people living with disabilities.
Women's Justice Network
Supporting women and girls involved with the criminal justice system or at-risk in the community.
The Women’s Justice Network (WJN) work across NSW communities and will begin offering mentoring services in the ACT's Alexander Maconochie Centre in 2024. With over 70% of mentoring referrals coming from NSW Correctional Centres and a 93% success rate in preventing reoffending for those mentored for 12 months or more, WJN addresses the complex social, emotional, and economic issues contributing to criminal behavior, fostering autonomy, community engagement, and healthy relationships.
WJN will pitch for support to facilitate their Healing from Within (HFW) Group Program. These sessions, led by women with lived experiences of custody, addiction, and trauma, aim to build self-esteem, confidence, and cultural connections, demonstrating the possibility of positive life changes.
