PITCHING FOR SUPPORT
Mountain Track Youth
Mountain Track is a long-term youth intervention program for young people doing it tough in the Latrobe Valley Area.
The Latrobe Valley is one of the most disadvantaged LGAs in the state. A high youth unemployment rate coupled with the highest crime rate of any LGA in regional Victoria indicates the great need for breaking cycles of disadvantage within the community. Mountain Track match disadvantaged young people with mentors who work alongside them to discover what makes them tick, help them to pursue their passions and reach their potential through training, jobs and positive life pathways.
They are pitching for funding to support the creation of a social enterprise landscape gardening business for young people enrolled in their programs.
Presented by:
Laura Myer
Co-founder, Mountain Track Youth
Laura is a qualified youth worker with over 20 years experience of working in the field. She has also worked in hospitality and philanthropy. She co-founded Mountain Track Youth with her work partner David Butler in 2023. She's lives at Jumbuk Park in the Latrobe Valley, where Mountain Track is based.
David Butler
Co-founder & CEO, Mountain Track Youth
David had a broad and varied working life in the trades, military, policing and mining before coming to youth work. Since then he's found his passion for eliciting the greatness that exists in all young people he walks beside and he’s sure to provide each and every one of them with his unconditional support.
Ocean Mind
Ocean Mind is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing transformative therapeutic surf programs tailored for young people.
Ocean Mind operates on the principle that mental health support should be accessible to all. They believe in creating positive, lasting change for young people through the transformative power of the ocean. Their programs go beyond traditional surfing instruction, fostering self-discovery, building trust, enhancing communication, and instilling a sense of purpose and belonging.
They are gearing up to extend their programs to the Mornington Peninsula, responding to the growing need for mental health support in the local community.
Presented by:

Worthy Cause
Worthy Cause is a social enterprise program based in Preston that employs ‘unemployable’ vulnerable people who have not been able to find long-term employment.
Through a structured 6 month employment program, young people experiencing hardship, disability or disadvantage can receive a stable income, financial literacy training, emotional counselling, soft-skills development and on-the-job core skills building, through trained, qualified experts and professionals. In the Worthy Cause kitchen, these employees are paid above the award rate to bake cookies that are then sold through their online store, at markets and events, to wholesalers and to corporations.
To reach even more vulnerable young people experiencing barriers to employment, Worthy Cause are pitching to fund the expansion of their social enterprise, and increase the number of young people employed in their kitchen.
Presented by:
Rick Cohen
Founder, Worthy Cause
Rick has built a career by combining his passions of the culinary arts and giving back. Rick founded Worthy Cause after overcoming his own mental health issues, spending many years in intensive psychiatric care and being treated alongside the people he now supports. Rick uses his story for the betterment of our community.
