PITCHING FOR SUPPORT
Confit Pathways
A youth mentoring organisation led by those with lived experience in the justice system, aiming to reduce youth recidivism by offering diversion programs that provide pathways to employment and education.
Recognising the challenges faced by young people in custody or recently released, Confit Pathways addresses deep-seated psychological issues, societal trends, and stigmas to prevent re-offending and the detrimental impact on individuals, emphasising the high cost of imprisonment and the concerning rates of re-entry into the criminal justice system.
They are pitching to extend their reach to rural and regional communities in NSW and across Australia by offering live online mentoring and fitness classes.
Presented by:
Joe Kwon
Founder & CEO, Confit Pathways
Joe spent 9 years in prison for directing a criminal enterprise. Today he is the founder and CEO of a NFP and a social enterprise where he provides lived prison experienced mentoring for incarcerated youth to have positive pathways once leaving the justice system.
Consent Labs
A non-profit organisation providing youth-led and evidence-based consent and respectful relationships education.
Consent Labs’ mission is to reduce the devastatingly high rates of sexual violence experienced by young people in Australia. To bring about change at a societal level, Consent Labs offers a range of age and stage appropriate programs that equip students – in both schools and universities – with the skills to navigate relationships safely and respectfully. Their preventative approach is grounded in global best practices research, and is endorsed by Australian industry experts. Consent Labs is innovative in that it is a youth-led organisation, and as such are best placed to effectively reach and engage other young people.
They are pitching for funding to expand their offering to regional and rural NSW where structural inequalities mean women are more likely to experience sexual violence than their metropolitan counterparts.
Presented by:
Angelique Wan
Co-founder & CEO Consent Labs
Angelique co-founded Consent Labs when she was 19, a youth-led not-for-profit that empowers the community with consent education. She grew Consent Labs as she worked full-time in Banking, and in 2021 started as Consent Labs’ full-time CEO. Angelique is a 2024 Westpac Social Change Fellow and the 2022 NSW Young Woman of the Year.
